Case Study: Toll Group

Background to the challenge

Toll Group is a transportation and logistics company. They provide road, rail, sea, air and warehouse services to both Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.

With over 1,200 sites across 50 countries, Toll Group gives their customers a truly global reach. They are an industry leader in the fields of logistics and transportation.

The problem

Toll Group's Darwin site needed a washwater recycling and stormwater management system to provide pH correction and disinfection, while also ensuring water was suitable for reuse in wash bays.

Darwin's harsh climate meant that the solution needed to be hardy. It had to be able to operate reliably in the city's hot and humid tropical climate and without access to a sewer point.

The solution was a custom-designed turnkey containerised water treatment and water recycling system, which was suitable for use in very hot and humid weather.

What Cleanawater did

Cleanawater designed and built a custom water recycling solution. The system recycled water from wash bays and then transferred the treated water to a treated water recycling tank.

The system featured zero discharge, as no discharge point was available. It was also designed to remove suspended solids to 1 micron mean and oil/grease/quick break detergents only. Disinfection was achieved by the use of Sodium Hypochlorite with a pH correction system.

The treatment train included Hydrocyclone Desander, Hydrocyclone Deoiler, Multimedia Turbidex Filter self-cleaning, and 3-stage filtration bank to 1-micron mean. As well as a pH correction system to maintain the pH in acceptable range, Chlorination Disinfections, and 2 x high pressure wash points.
