Magnesium Hydroxide Dosing Units
Cleanawater Magnagard™ dosing units raise sewer pH to reduce odours and system corrosion
Cleanawater's magnesium hydroxide dosing units raise the pH in untreated wastewater to a level that is not conducive to the bacterial processes that generate odorous H₂S gas.
Magnagard™ magnesium dosing units aid the control of H₂S gas emissions which are toxic for site workers and produce unpleasant odours at low concentrations. Dosing can occur directly into a sewer flow stream or via a sewer maintenance hole, pump station or rising main.
Cleanawater's expert maintenance, monitoring and chemical delivery services ensure that your dosing unit continues to perform at its highest capacity.

Uses and applications
- Used in sewage treatment plants, rising mains and pump stations
- An alkali used to treat low pH (acidity) in wastewater systems
- H₂S levels are regulated downstream from dosing point
- Lowers the emission of H₂S gas by up to 80%
- Reduces corrosion of sewer system facilities by H₂S gas
- Ensures compliance with Work Health Safety (WHS) Regulations

Benefits of Cleanawater Magnagard™ magnesium hydroxide auto chemical dosing units
- Reduces odour by up to 80%
- Proven history of reliable results
- Aids eradication of suspended solids
- Efficient method of heavy metal elimination
- Allows sludge to go to landfill (no encapsulation required)
- Saves you money on sludge disposal
- Environmentally friendly
How it works
Cleanawater Magnagard™ dosing units work by raising the sewerage to a pH level of 8 or above. As the chemical reaction that causes H₂S emission works best when the pH is between 6.8 and 7.2, less odorous gas is produced with a higher sewerage pH level.
Benefits to clients
Cleanawater Magnagard™ chemical dosing gets to the root of the odour problem, tackling it on a molecular level to reduce odours by 80% and prevent the corrosive build-up of sulphuric acid on sewer walls. Our magnesium hydroxide dosing units, therefore, have a vital role in saving you maintenance time and money while also maximising worker safety and complying with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations.
Using chemical dosing systems for sewerage also enhances the breakdown of suspended solids, aids in heavy metal removal and allows sludge to go to landfill which means you also save money on sludge disposal.

Product details
Functional description
Cleanawater Magnagard™ magnesium hydroxide dosing units typically include a Bredel peristaltic dosing pump, a programmable logic controller (PLC) for dosing automation, a dosing line flushing system, and a flat or conical bottomed tank with an integrated stirrer.
The best way to introduce magnesium hydroxide dosing to a system is directly into a sewer flow stream via a maintenance hole, pump station, or rising main.
Construction
The Magnagard™ automatic chemical dosing system’s storage tanks are typically made out of PE and are designed to suit the product's Specific Gravity (SG) of 1.5. An automatic mixer inside the storage tank helps to retain the preferred product consistency, with additional gelling control enabled with the use of a conical-shaped storage tank. Regulated water flushing of the dosing line prevents blockages. Choose from 3 security options for your Magnagard™ system; a fenced compound, a metal-clad enclosure or a concrete hut enclosure.
We recommend the use of a bunded unloading area for worker safety and environmental protection. The OdourPro Magnagard™ auto chemical dosing system requires 240V power and potable water connections.
Chemical dosing agents
We use magnesium hydroxide in our Magnagard™ dosing units. At Cleanawater, we also provide a convenient chemical supply and delivery service.
Optional accessories
Magnagard™ magnesium hydroxide automatic chemical dosing units come in a range of sizes. At Cleanawater, we offer an expert consultation service to help you ascertain the best treatment strategy for your site. Your dosing unit storage tank will be sized for six weeks of storage to allow for efficient monthly refills with a safe time buffer.
Choose to upgrade to a full telemetry option for easy access to logged system data. You may also elect either an ultrasonic or pressure pad level sensing, duty or standby pumping system and your choice of enclosure material, including COLORBOND® or concrete.
Containerised and customised solutions
Magnagard™ dosing units can be constructed inside a shipping container and tested before easy transport to the site for quick "plug and play" functionality, facilitating trial or temporary dosing.
